Tai O is a traditional fishing village with houses built on stilts. Today fishing is on the decline and the village is transforming itself with small shops and cafes to support tourism. Surrounding the village are numerous walking trails in the hills which offer great views of the surrounding South China Sea and the 55km Hong Kong - Macau road bridge. It’s possible to see Chinese Pink Dolphins in the surrounding waters.
Tai O can be reached with a further bus ride from the Ngong Ping cable car. It’s also possible to take a bus from either Tung Chung station after taking a train from Central or from Mui Wo ferry terminal after catching a ferry from central Hong Kong.
