A feature of the bronze age, Port Meadow is a open area of pasture featuring cows and horses which are allowed to roam free. It was handed to the Freemen of Oxford by Alfred the Great to allow them to graze their cattle.
Close to the city centre, the area is ideal for walking and is bounded by the River Thames to the west. There are a number of access points including Walton Well Road in Jericho just north of the city centre.
