Oxford University’s Bodleian Library is one of the oldest in Europe with the first building appearing in 1320. Over time the library grew but many books were removed in 1550 before Sir Thomas Bodley refurbished the library which reopened in 1602. In 1610 Bodley entered into an agreement that every book published in England would be available in the library.
In 1749 the Radcliffe Camera adjacent to the library becoming an iconic feature of Oxford and in 1860 it joined the Bodleian Library. in 2015 further space was added in the newly renovated Weston Library on the opposite side of Broad Street.
