The Arc de Triomphe is one of the iconic landmarks of Paris standing at the end of the Champs-Élysées. It was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 but took many years to reach completion. The arch has been the site to commemorate French military success including after the First and Second World Wars. The processions avoid passing through the arch as the center houses a tomb with a unknown solider from the First World War.
A subway takes pedestrians under the busy roundabout to the Arc. From there a lift allows visitors to access a museum. A further set of stairs allows access to the open terrace providing a view across Paris.
