There’s views you’d travel the world to see. But some aren’t as unique as you might imagine. Here’s five iconic view which have doppelgangers in other parts of the world.
Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco frames the Bay Area. But this version of the bridge actually crosses the Tagus river in Lisbon Portugal. It’s the largest bridge in Europe and was opened in 1966.
Painted in a similar orange shade to the Golden Gate bridge, in a strange coincidence it was built by the same company that built the Bay Bridge linking Oakland and San Francisco. In 1974, when Portugal overthrew its authoritarian regime, the bridge was renaned to the 25th of April bridge to celebrate the day.
Vegas Skyline
With the Eiffel Tower of the Paris Casino and the towers of the Venetian Casino it’d be easy to think this is a remake of the Vegas skyline. And in fact it is, in Macau, China.
Macau was a Portuguese colony across the sea from Hong Kong. It returned to China in 1997 and as the only place where gambling is legal, is a haven for tourists from mainland China. You’ll find versions of the Paris, Venetian and Wynn casinos here complete with fountain displays. In recent years, Macau has surpassed Vegas for gambling revenue but has been hit hard by a drop in tourism from covid restrictions.
Statue of Liberty

It’s a picture New York view but look closely and you’ll see the orange glow of the Tokyo tower in the background which reveals the location of this Japanese version of the State of Liberty. The American version of the statue was a gift from the French in 1886. The temporary Tokyo version was intended to commerate French-Japanese ties but proved so popular a permanent replica was built. It’s around one tenth the size of the New York version.
Christ the Redeemer
Christ the Redeemer stands tall above Rio de Janeiro. But the image here is of a version in Lisbon, Portugal. It stands across the river in Almada, next to the 25th of April Bridge. It was built to replicte the Brazilian version and was completed in 1959.
Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower has stood out against the Paris skyline since construction started in 1887. This replica version stands out against the backdrop of Shenzen in China. Opened in 1993, the park features replicas from around the world including Acropolis of Athens, Big Ben and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Eiffel Tower replica is one third of the size of the original.
